OUR COMPANY’S FOUNDATION

In 1830 Arie Stinis founded his smithy, making horse shoes and skates for the community of Krimpen aan de Lek. As the company passed from father to son for five generations, its focus shifted from general blacksmithing to specialized engineering of marine lifting equipment to better service the nearby Port of Rotterdam.

1830

Arie Stinis

The first iron box

In 1967, Stinis unloaded the first iron box in Rotterdam – a huge milestone. This historic moment was greeted by a new generation of leadership: Kees Stinis. His inventions are what allowed the company to evolve into a specialized developer of container lifting equipment.

Stinis Autotwist 1989

NEW LIFTING SOLUTIONS

In 1989, Stinis developed the patented Autotwist spreader – a robust spreader that automatically locks and unlocks when placed on a container. This spreader type became very popular with shipping lines who put safety first. A Dutch shipping line resold hundreds of Autotwist spreaders in Singapore. This provided the seed for what would become Stinis Asia Pacific.

1996

Stinis Long-Twin Spreader 1996

PATENTED INNOVATIONS

The demand for spreaders increased as container ports evolved. In response, Stinis launched a number of patented innovations. The single telescopic beam, the ultra-powerful flipper actuator and the Double-Collar twistlock made their appearance. We received international recognition with the introduction of the Stinis Long-Twin in 1996. The Stinis Long-Twin makes it possible to create a 1600 mm distance between two 20’ containers. It has changed terminal activities worldwide. Today the Long-Twin is still the standard for Ship to Shore operations.

INCREASING QUAY SIDE PRODUCTIVITY

In 2001, we introduced the Stinis Split-Headblock. This patented innovation significantly increased quay side productivity. By replacing the conventional headblock of a single hoist crane, the Stinis Split-Headblock can lift up to four 20’ containers simultaneously.

PRODUCTION EXPANSION

Our company continued to experience unprecedented growth due to global trade and successful innovations. We expanded our production facility in The Netherlands in 1997 and 2005.

Stinis Malaysia - Production Facility 2008

Production Facility in Malaysia

2008, as part of our continuous growth, we made the strategic decision to expand our production operations from Singapore to Malaysia. This move not only allowed us to tap into new markets and leverage the advantages of operating in Malaysia, but it also enabled us to establish a knowledge transfer program. Aiming to facilitate the sharing of expertise and best practices between our teams in Singapore and Malaysia, collaborating and ensuring a seamless transition of knowledge and skills.

2010

Stinis Electrical Yard Spreader 2010

Invented Electrical Yard Crane Spreader

In 2010 a full electric spreader was developed in response to the increasing concerns about climate change. The main goal of this spreader was to provide a more efficient, quiet, and environmentally-friendly solution. It was designed to minimize leakage and optimize the spreading process, thereby reducing waste and maximizing effectiveness.

Electrical Ship to Shore Spreaders

We further enhanced electrical spreaders by creating an electric spreader for ship-to-shore operations. This new electric technology transformed cargo handling and transfer between ships and port terminals.

Stinis Malaysia - Relacation Large Production Facility in 2014

Relocation to large production facility in Malaysia

Relocating to a larger production facility in Malaysia in 2014 was a significant step for our company. Our state-of-the-art facility includes both production and office spaces, which gives us a great advantage and increased demand allowed us to provide more high-quality spreaders for the Asian market.

2016

Stinis Long-Twin - Endbeam Cameras (patented) 2016

Endbeam camera’s (patented)

We have reached a new innovation with our patented end beam cameras, which can be equipped on our spreaders. These advanced cameras assist the operator in locating corner castings of containers more efficiently, leading to faster operation times.

Acquisition of new sales office in Singapore

In 2018, we successfully acquired a new sales office in Singapore, located close to our facility in Malaysia. This move not only provided a more modern and convenient space but also strengthened the connection between Malaysia and Singapore, facilitating efficient order management for our growing customer base.
